The dark forest, 2026

“The universe is a dark forest. Every civilization is an armed hunter stalking through the trees like a ghost, gently pushing aside branches that block the path and trying to tread without sound.”

– Liu Cixin, The Dark Forest

Winter, forest covered with snow, muffling the noises and species, disconnect the unseen strings between me and society. It was almost like the zero gravity in space. The forces on the Earth disappear, which was the only strength that makes us attached on the ground, and initialize the direction that always guide me.

There is no south, west, east, and north in space. But there are: in front of you, behind you, to the side of you, above you, below you, diagonally next to you, diagonally below you, diagonally above you. While freedom from gravity may lead to severance, it also gives life to countless branches, leaves, roots, and fruits of possibility, as well as the snowflakes that settle upon them.
